Designed for cubic capacity, cargo protection and durability, the Champion CP composite van delivers strength from the inside out. With panels more puncture-resistant than comparable sheet-and-post trailers and a truly snag-free interior, the CP offers increased productivity.
Four 2.5" hat-section uprights coupled with two additional 3"radius corner posts add superior strength to the front wall while providing square interior corners for maximum cargo loading. Air and electrical connections are mounted externally on a stainless steel mounting plate on the frontwall, making them serviceable from the exterior. Gladhands are standard with polyeurethane seals for longer life. With an extruded aluminum impact plate that extends across the bottom front combined with a .25" heavy-duty rolled lip, the front of the upper coupler is protected from fifth wheel impact. For added strength and corrosion protection, the upper coupler is attached to the bottom rail with stainless steel fasteners.
The strongest standard sidewall in the industry, the Champion CP's panel thickness is .31" with .019" skins combines with an integral heavy-duty bottom rail to achieve maximum sidewall stiffness. The unique top rail and gasket design overlaps the top of the side panels and posts of the trailer to provide the best resistance to water leakage. Foam gaskets are used at all crucial connection points in addition to standard caulking to ensure superior protection against water intrusion.
The Champion CP's standard roof adds durability and longevity to the roof system. Galvanized steel, anti-snag roof bows on 24" centers are permanently bonded with a premium two-part epoxy to a one-piece .040" aluminum or .075" fiberglass roof sheet. Roof bows attached with two fasteners per end. The tension-mounted roof sheet is joined to the top rail with an extruded aluminum J-molding. The attachment is closely riveted bonding a foam sealing tape between the roof sheet and top rail, and is finished with a neoprene sealant to prevent moisture intrusion.
The Great Dane Model 60 Landing Gear uses a constant mesh gear box which keeps gears engaged for consistently smooth shifting. The landing gear construction features a floating nut design which protects the elevating screw from damage caused by dock walk. Supported by angle bracing at the front and rear, the GD Model 60 has a lift capacity of 55,000 lbs. The mount spreads the load over five crossmembers. Steel gussets ensure extra support, stability, and strength. Completing the design, Great Dane's proprietary replaceable shock-mounted sand shoes reduce stresses in the mount by 50 percent. Componentry is bolted in place for ease of repair. Standard 4" steel I-beam crossmembers are 80,000 psi and 3.45 lb/ft. Installed on 12" centers full length, this design provides unparalleled floor strength. The Champion CP comes standard with a sliding spring suspension on 49" axle centers. Available air-ride suspensions are optional. Standard black Dry Flex undercoating is the first line of defense against corrosion from road abrasion. Great Dane's exclusive CorroGuard is an available option for corrosion protection on landing gear and suspensions.
Great Dane's standard dry van rear frame, EnduroGuard, combines the strength of galvannealed carbon steel and stainless steel to deliver a frame capable of withstanding the elements and strong enough to last a lifetime. EnduroGuard is standard with gray paint and white is available as an option. The rear frame is further strengthened by a two-crossmember deep integral bottom rail to rear frame reinforcing gusset, which distributes the stresses of dock impact. The standard ½" composite rear doors eliminate high-maintenance plywood core doors, which means extended door life, less maintenance and overall trailer longevity. The rear header to top rail connection is reinforced at the corners by a massive .25" steel gusset, which minimizes racking and ensures that the frame remains square throughout the life of the trailer. Because the rear header does not protrude into the door opening, The Champion CP maintains a full 110" inside height the full length of the trailer without the use of a wedge design. Three lock rods, two road-side and one curb-side, combine with five aluminum hinges per door to ensure the frame's strength and to protect against racking.
The high-strength tubular steel rear impact guard is designed and tested to conform to all U.S. and Canadian regulations. An integral part of the rear frame, the impact guard is secured by eight ¾" diameter grade 8 bolts. The vertical channels are strongly braced by 5/16" thick high-tensile steel reinforcement gussets to the slider rail. The horizontal tube has a vertical concave surface that creates a recessed area to protect conspicuity tape from abrasion. It also features a perforated top surface for traction and capped ends that extend above the tube for added safety. Available options for rear impact guards include stainless steel and galvanized steel, and may be welded in place or bolted on for ease of repair.
Optional swing door access system include a fixed step on the curbside, roadside, or both, or an intermediate step centered and a surface mount grabhandle between the hinges on the roadside. Optional roll-up rear door access systems include a fixed step on the curbside, roadside, or both, and either a surface-mounted or recessed grabhandle.
Great Dane's heavy-duty, extruded aluminum hinge design allows the doors to open fully to the sides and to "break away" in the event of severe impact. Five hinges per door are standard. Hinges are fastened to the doors by three .375" diameter steel step bolts, making hinge replacement effortless, and include anti-theft fasteners at top and bottom. The use of phenolic bushings ensures long-term smooth operation. An additional safety feature, the Secure-Cam is standard on the curbside door, allowing the lock rod to be secured with a padlock directly to the lower keeper.
The Champion CP's exterior lighting package comes standard with Grote's MicroNova® DOT LED lamps, designed to improve visibility and service life of the lights. The system also features dual intensity clearance lights, with an available option for five clearance lights with outer turn signal. The industry's best wiring harness, the Long-Life Light System is a maintenance-free, fully modular system backed by a 10-year warranty. This sealed harness prevents moisture intrusion, is extremely durable, and combines the flexibility of a custom wiring system with the reliability and simplicity of a sealed harness.
With a full 101" interior width and a standard .31" overall panel thickness. The Champion CP design combines increased cubic capacity with a true snag-free interior for maximum durability. Logistic posts are recessed at panel connections on 48" centers with flush interior rivet heads to allow for a true snag-free interior. This design reduces cargo damage and claims to customers, thereby increasing profit. The Champion CP offers a lightweight package as an available option that incorporates the high base rail with a lighter weight side panel and is designed specially for floor loading operations, such as the beverage industry. This option is not available for sideload operations. This package features a composite frontwall design, aluminum crossmembers, lightweight sidewall panels and other weight saving options. For added durability, this lightweight package is available with up to a 24,000-lb. rated floor.
Champion CP comes standard with 13" of scuffband protection to significantly reduce exterior scarring at the most vulnerable area. A full-length one-piece extruded aluminum bottom rail with integralscuffband design adds tremendous strength and rigidity in the lower sidewall helping reduce sidewall bulging. An additional galvanized steel scuff is installed above the aluminum scuff to provide extra protection from forklift damage. A high base rail option is available to improve sidewall durability and provides 15 inches of extensive sidewall protection. The 5/16" thick heavy-duty extruded aluminum bottom rail extends over 15 inches above the floor and is fastened to the sidewall. The integrated wall protection and structural bottom rail design adds stiffness and rigidity to the side wall making it extremely durable against the most abusive applications. The thickness of the integral rail also provides protection against the unsightly scarring of daily wear and tear from cargo loading. Any damage to this lower rail area can be quickly and easily repaired if necessary.
A 1.38" laminated hardwood floor is supported by heavy-duty wax-coated, I-beam crossmembers, the strongest standard crossmembers in the industry. This strength combined with the corrosion-resistant floor coating results in longer life and less downtime. A smooth steel 12-guage, 3" threshold plate is standard. Multiple options for threshold plate depths, materials, and surfaces are available. Air and electrical lines are routed above the crossmembers in a recess of the bottom rail, providing easy access and protection. By eliminating a commonly used floor channel, costly repairs are prevented.
